Dear Whomever it May Concern,

I wrote my first article when I was a freshman in high school. I needed an elective and it was the only class that fit into my schedule. I sat down in the first class and decided it wasn’t for me. I wasn’t sure I liked journalism or had even considered it before.

I knew I liked sports and I liked poetry. Four years later I stood in front of a new group of students, in the same classroom, as I showed them the work I had done that had won state awards. Now I sit in the Tsongas Center press box, and look around and try to imagine that 14 year-old girl who didn’t know anything about journalism but decided to give it a shot.

Growing up right outside of Philadelphia I don’t know if I had a choice if I wanted to be a sports fan or not. I listened to WIP on the way to school every morning and followed the Flyers as if eight-year-old me was the beat writer for the team.

I have been self employed as a freelance journalist for the past three years. Through this journey I have written for the Philadelphia Inquirer, The Hockey News, Sun Papers, and more. Currently, working for The Hockey News, I have learned about interviewing and reporting on professional athletes.  I have gained sports reporting skills and know both how to manage working for a team and reporting on a team. I have successfully pitched my stories to major publications and worked with editors there.

I also have experience working for sports teams. I am currently working at TD Garden with the Bruins and Celtics, as a control room intern this semester. I am working on the production side of the industry, putting together a show every night for games. I also have experience working for the Philadelphia Phillies, where I watched Kruk and McCarthy commentate on the games after I worked while rewatching the game.

Thank you for considering me. I am available at 215-800-8896 or VaniHanamirian@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Vani Hanamirian
